ACS Cross Country 2013-2014

ACS Beirut Cross Country 2013-2014

        Welcome to the ACS Beirut Cross Country blog.  This blog is the best place to get information about practices, tips for running and anything else that might need to be shared with you.  You can also e mail me directly: Coach Alex   aray@acs.edu.lb  

Important Information:
Practice:
When: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 3:35-5:00 (rain or shine)
Where: AUB track
Start: Thursday November 21st, 2013
Finish: Saturday February 8th, 2014

Practice Expectations:
-Eat at least 1 hour before practice 
-Bring your own water bottle
-Bring running clothes
-Show up on time
-Communicate with Coach Alex if you are going to be absent 
-Have digital wrist watch 
-Do your best!

Cross Country meets:
January 18th- at IC
February 1st- at Deir Qamar
February 6-9- METS conference meet in Amman, Jordan
(Middle school runners will race 3 km.  High school runners will race 5 km)

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone enjoyed their extended break.  We will meet tomorrow Saturday January 12th at 12:00 noon outside of the High School gym for our first cross country practice of 2013.  All are welcome to attend.  We hope everyone can make it!

Due to several uncontrollable factors, practice today has been cancelled.  Please let other members of the team know that we will not be meeting today.  We will meet again on Tuesday January 8th, 2013.  Have a great healthy winter break!  See you next year.

Shaking Legs!

The answer to your question: "Why are my legs shaking?"

"Your legs can tremble following a workout as a normal reaction to strengthening your muscles. The shaking occurs as the muscles grab and release each other as they shorten and lengthen. It can be more evident if you are new to exercise or perform exercises and movements that your muscles are not accustomed to. A strenuous workout can also deplete the glycogen in the body and cause the body to use protein and fat as an energy source, which can trigger shaking and fatigue. In addition, intense exercise releases lactic acid and other metabolic byproducts, which can cause shakiness after exercise. Some conditions such as stress, anxiety, low blood sugar, fatigue, multiple sclerosis and a postural tremor can also trigger shaking legs."
